PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
In individuals with multiple sclerosis: immune system targets myelin of neurons found in white matter, i.e. Brain and spinal cord. Macrophages present myelin protein to T cells. T cells then signal B cells to produce antibodies against myelin. Inflamm
atory response ensues as macrophages and leukocytes degrade myelin.
