Allay Fears and anxiety
Build rapport and trust through therapeutic communication,

Do not give false hope
Prepare Skin
Remove dentures
Remove jewelry and contact lense
Shave are if applicable with antibacterial soap
Remove makeup and mail polish
Nutritional guildelines
Place NPO signs over bed
Paitent should be NPO atleast 4-6 hours before surgery
Administer medication
Administer pre-operative medications,
Administer antiemetic drugsand sedatives as prescribed
Assess allergies to medications

Nurse must serve as witness

Splinting exercises
Foot and Leg Excercises
Deep breathing excersises

Coughing Excersises
Ensure Client's Safety and Comfort
Ensure client arrives to OT ontime
Transfer from stretcher to bed
Ensure patient has on name tag
Accompany patient to OT

Monitor patient's Vital signs every 5 minutes
Respiratory rate

Oxygen Therapy

Maintain Sterility
Ensure sterile field by keeping only sterile objects in that area
Count euipments before and after surgey
Don sterile PPE wear before sugery
Maintain Fluid therapy and medications
Administer blood transfusion therapy as prescribed
Ensure fluids are maintained as needed
Ensure anesthesia is given at optimal ranges
Post-opertative Nursing
Monitor vital signs every 15 minutes
Respiratory rates are particularly important here
Temperature is always very important as it can indicate infection
Maintain airway patency
Ascultate lung sounds
Monitor Fluid input and output
Asses Level of Consciousness
Assess for orientation to place, time and people
Monitor for lethargy
Assess level of sedation after surgery
Maintain Safety for client
Keep side rails open
Monitor chest exertion to prevent pleural effusion
Encourage cough reflex to decrease aspiration
Monitor surgical site
For purulent drainge
Color
