Cardiomyopathy
Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Myocardium dilates, things and develops chronic fibrosis with variable hypertrophy
Leads to mitral regurg, tricuspid regurg, atrial dilation

Dx:
Echo (dilation, wall thinning, global ventricular dysfunction)
CXR (cardiomegaly, pulmonary edema, effusion)
EKG (nonspecific ST segment changes, Q waves, LBBB)
Cardiac MRI
Tx:
Treat HF (ACE, ARB, BB, Diuretic, Aldosterone)
Anticoagulation
Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator
Prognosis (20% die within first year, 10% per each year after)

Ischemic Cardiomyopathy
Occurs in pts w/ severe CAD w/wo areas of infarction. Not classically considered to be one of the categories of cardiomyopathy because it does not describe a primary myocardial disorder
