Major achievements:
2011 - world championships won gold and silver medals.
London Olympics 2012 won two Gold medals in 5000m and 10,000m races
Moved to Britain aged 8 due to conflict in Somalia
On leaving school went to the endurance and performance coaching centre in Twickenham
Selected aged 14 to go to the British Olympic futures camp in Florida
A turning point for him.
His athletic talent was spotted by his teacher Alan Watkinson who encouraged him.
Struggled academically because of language but was excellent at sport.
At this time he spoke little English and went to school In London
To support himself he worked in fast food restaurants / shops
Famous for celebrating his race victories by doing the MOBOT.
Awarded CBE (Commander of the British empire in 2013)
Devout Musilim and bows to the ground in prayer after his races.
