Is this consistent with previous research?
Why are there differences or similarities between categories?
Approaches to Qualitative Analysis
Grounded theory
generating categories and their properties;
integrating categories and their properties;
delimiting the theory and writing the theory.
Narrative analysis
is the study of stories or a chronological series of events.
Discourse analysis
examines both spoken and written language.
Visual analysis
involves analyzing images that may come from secondary or primary findings.
Quantifying Qualitative Data: Content analysis
is a way of systematically converting text to numerical variables for quantitative data analysis’
Identify the unit of analysis
Choose categories that are relevant to the issues beingstudied.
Once you have chosen your categories, read through the material and apply these codes to units of text.
Tabulate the material. Present the categories and list the assertions under them.
