The novels, The Great Gatsby, By F Scott Fitzgerald, and The Catcher in the Rye, by JD Salinger, imply that it is important for an individual to learn and grow by evaluating his or her past actions, lest they get stuck trying to repeat the past, which can be dangerous. It is important For Individuals to learn from their past because it allows one to live more in the present and look to the future.
The great Gatsby
The argument of the thesis is implied in the great gatsby in that it shows the dangers of trying to live in the past.
Fitzgerald shows this by having gatsby live more in the past than the present, thus making him negligent to threats to his livelihood that ultimately lead to his premature death

One can see salinger develop this message in the novel when holden decides to go back to school and try again.
