Acropolis Of Athens
Who built it? Most of the major temples,including the Parthenon [Acropolis],were rebuilt under the leadership of Pericles. Ictinus and Callicrates,two famous architects were responsible for the construction.
When did Pericles build the Acropolis? Work on the Acropolis began in 447 BC and took roughly 50 years and was originally seen as a fortress. The Acropolis was made to honor the Greek goddess Athena.
Why did Pericles build the Acropolis? To replace an existing temple which was destroyed by the Persians in 480 BC ,and cost 469 silver talents to build. Work began in 447 BC to show the wealth and exuberance of Athenian power.
