Writer's intentions
Being the Devil's wife was considered to be more evil than being the Devil himself, which is what Duffy portrays in the poem
Duffy did not name Myra Hindley in the poem as she wants the poem to be applicable to all women who are influenced by an evil partner
"What did I do to us all, to myself // When I was the Devil's wife?" Shows regret and remorse of her previous actions as the rhetorical question is in past tense, meaning that she does not love the Devil (Brady) anymore.
