War at Sea

By Feb. 1776 the American Navy attacks the supply base of the British in the Bahamas and succeeds in the base capturing.

In Feb. the small American Navy launched a major offensive damage the ability of the British fleet located off Carolina.

In the fall of 1775 the Continental Congress gress made plans to build four American ships for war.

John Paul Jones

War in the West

Clark's men started out on a 120 mile overland trek to Kaskaskia in present day Ilinois

In 1779 Clark launched a surprise attack on Fort Sackville near the town of Vincennes.

George Rogers Clark volunteered to lead the western campaign .

When the war broke out, Jones volunteered his services newly created navy.

September 23 1779 one of Jones most famous victories was the capture of the British war ship.

John Paul Jones had success on the seas to naval hero. He was also considered an outlaw, after killing his leader he fled to America.

Brutal fighting

British officer , Banastre Tarleton sowed fear throughout the South by refusing to take prisoners and killing soldiers who tired to surrender

Georgia was the last colony to join the Revolution and was the first to fall from British.

The British destroyed crops and farm animals, etc.

Guerrilla Warfare

No Patriot was a better fighter than Francis Marion.

Marion often used surprise attacks to disrupt British communication and supply lines.

The Southern Patriots switched to swift hit and run attacks known as guerrilla warfare

Failed Attack

General Nathanael arrived to reorganize the army. He later wrote " I have never witnessed such scenes."

In the heat of battle, many panicked and ran.The Patriots attacked Quickly and fell apart.

In August 1780,Patriot forces led by Horatio Gates tried to drive the British out of Camden.
