Organic Waste Facility Location
Added the Province
Layer
Added "LandCover.shp"
Selected F-Code 9 attributes and created a new layer to show where the designated areas are.
Went into "Soil Attribute Table"
Using a Query Builder we selected all "Well" 'E_Drainage' attributes. After we created a new table to show us where the soil was best.
Merged "lakes.shp" and "water_bodies.shp"
After the merge we
buffered
the merged layer with the boundary layer. This gave us areas too close to water bodies and lakes. Therefore the waste facility can not reside in these areas. (made this section 60% transparent)
Merged "Agricultural land" and "Well Drained Soil" layers
At this point we have our first map, our first map shows where we can so far put the organic waste processing facility. These areas are on well drained soil, agricultural land and is 1km away from water bodies.
The blueish green covering Durham are possible locations of the Organic Waste Processing Facility. The red zones are areas where it was too close to lakes and water bodies.
This gave us an Ontario background.
First Add "esa_shp"
Created clip, eliminating all ESA locations as a possible area.
Unionized moraines, conservation areas, nature areas, and wetlands areas.
Made the "Too Close to Water Bodies and Lakes" a clip to clean things up a bit.
Create Buffer
We took all of the moraines, nature areas, wetlands and conservation areas and eliminated all places 1km away from it.
Add Wood Areas and Rivers
We buffered both of these up to 200m away and then clipped them.
Next we added "spot.shp"
We selected attributes for all of the elevation over 100m and created a separate layer.
Then added "irgcity.shp" and "places_pop.shp"
Buffered Urban cities up to a 5km radius and then selected attributes for the populated areas (5000 at a minimum) and then buffered the "5000+ populated areas" at a radius of 2km.
Unionized Urban Cities and 5000+ Populated areas
We then clipped this union to show us where we couldn't put the facility.
With the clipped urban cities and populated areas we intersected three components; "Elevation spots, Too close to water bodies and lakes and boundary" which gave us the only elevation spots left where we can put the facility.
The Second Map
This map shows us the liable elevation spots, where the areas are too populated and near urban cities, woods and rivers, and environmentally sensitive areas. (Also where the water bodies and lakes are too close)
Add "highways.shp", "rail.shp" and "roads.shp"
Merged all 3 layers
Buffered with a radius of 50m
Measuring Land
The facility requires
AT LEAST
100 hectares of land for the site itself, but they want to be able to expand the recycling units so they'll need extra land due to the tendency of constantly growing urban cities. To be safe, we gave them 110 hectares.
