Of 14 classed as affections, 12 experienced separation from the mother (e.g.: Betty I; Derek B)
Of 30 non affections, only 3 experienced separation
Of 27 not experienced separation, 17 had poor relationship with mothers

Procedures
- The 3 professionals then met to compare their notes
- Psychiatrist conducted meeting with child and/or parent and met them weekly for the next 6 months. The mothers talked to social workers about problems.
- Bowlby then conducted interview with child and accompanyig parent for 1 hour
- This allowed them to gather more in depth information about the character of the children
- At same time social worker recorded interviews of their mothers and the childrens early life cycle.Psychologist and social worker made seperate notes.
- Enabled psychiatrist to diagnose children's emotional problems and treat them
- An IQ test (Binet Scale) was made of each child when they arrived at the clinic. Their emotional response to the test was recorded too
