Sediment.
Sediment is any loose material, including sand, mud or gravel, that is washed off by erosion and carried by a river or other eroding force.
Levee
A levee is a deposit of sand or mud built up along and sloping away from either side of the floodplain of a river.
Water Table
The water table is the upper level of underground water in a region. Below the water table the ground is saturated with water.
Alluvial Fan
A deposit of sediment with a fan shaped outline. Usually caused by a mountain stream losing velocity at the bottom of a slope.
Dendritic
From the Greek dendron, or tree, the name applies to the branching drainage patterns of streams and rivers.
Bed Load
Sand, pebbles, rocks or boulders that are moved along the bed of a stream but are too heavy to be suspended in the water.
