Chapter 6 : Linear Functions
6.4 Slope Intercept form of the equation for a linear function
Slope Intercept Form: Y=AX + B. A = slope, B = Y value at Y intercept.
6.1 slope of a line
Slope is Rise/Run.
If slope is positive, Y increases as X increases,
Andy If slope is negative, Y decreases as X increases.
Determining the slope of a line segment
Mark 2 points on a line segment
From point A to point B, record level of elevation and how much it moved to the right.
divide the rise by run. Slope can be negative.
6.2 slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines
Parallel: slopes are same. Parallel lines never meet each other.
Perpendicular: for slope a, A times B = -1. B= slope of a perpendicular line. Perpendicular lines form 90 degrees when they meet.
6.5 Slope Point form of the equation for a linear function
Y-Y1 = A(X - X1). A is slope. and X1 and Y1 are point on the line.
6.6 General form of the Equation for a linear relation
General form: AX + BY + C = 0. A must be whole number. B and C are Integers.
Transforming between each form
General form to Slope-Intercept form
make coefficient of Y to 1.
Move X and Constant to right side.
Slope-Intercept form to General form
Create the X coefficient to Integer
Move X and Constant to left
Make coefficient of X positive
Slope-Point form to General form
Find Slope-Intercept form of a line
From slope Intercept form, create General form.
General form to Slope-Point form
make Slope-Intercept form from general form.
Create Slope-Point form from Slope-Intercept form
Slope-Intercept form to Slope-Point form
Graph the line, and Find Y intercept of a line
Create Slope-Intercept equation based on line.
