Woodworking Digital Literacy Project Ideas
Woodworking Processes
Woodworking 1 Grades 9-12
Project Details: Students will select a woodworking process, they will then research the proper purpose and technique of this process, they will create a visual presentation using some sort of web 2.0 tool, students will use these visuals to teach the class what the process is and how to do it.
Project must have at least 3 credible sources and be presented using useful visuals that the students must create
Examples: how to square a board, the finishing process, etc.
Woodworking Safety
Woodworking 1 Grades 9-12
Project Details: Students will select a woodworking tool/machine (hand tool or powered), they will then research the safety concerns for the use of this tool, they will create a visual presentation using some sort of web 2.0 tool, students will use these visuals to teach the class how to safely use the tool.
Examples: Table saw safety, drill press safety, etc.
Project must have at least 3 credible sources and be presented using useful visuals that the students must create
Tool Uses
Woodworking 1 Grades 9-12
Project Details: Students will select a woodworking tool (hand tool or powered), they will then research the proper purpose and uses of this tool, they will create a visual presentation using some sort of web 2.0 tool, students will use these visuals to teach the class what the tool is used for and how to use it.
Examples: Miter saw to cross cut, jointer to square edge, etc.
Project must have at least 3 credible sources and be presented using useful visuals that the students must create
Standards: Each project would meet the following ACRL standards:
Standard 1 - The visually literate student determines the nature and extent of the visual materials needed.
Standard 2 - The visually literate student finds and accesses needed images and visual media effectively and efficiently.
Standard 3 - The visually literate student interprets and analyzes the meanings of images and visual media.
Standard 5 - The visually literate student uses images and visual media effectively.
Standard 6 - The visually literate student designs and creates meaningful images and visual media.
