George William Frederick was born premature on June 4, 1738 and died deaf, blind and mad at the age of 81 on January 29, 1820.
They baptised him right away because they didn´t think he was going to live.
His parents were Frederick, who was the Prince of Wales and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha and he had many siblings.
I found it amazing that he overcame his shyness with the help of his mentor and tutor, Scottish noblemen, John Stuart, Third Earl of Bute.
George´s father died in 1751 and that is when George inherited the title ¨Duke of Edinburgh¨.
His grandfather made him ¨Prince of Wales¨ which made him in line for the throne.
At the age of 22, George´s grandfather dies and George is made King. He is said to be the longest running Monarch of England next to Victoria and Elizabeth.
He married Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the daughter of a German duke, about a year after he took reign and together they had a huge family with 15 children.
Did you know, that in 1778, George went crazy with violent outbursts for a whole month. He was restrained to a straitjacket and went through numerous treatments (i could only imagine what they were). It took over a year before he was stable again, it makes you wonder how they hide that from the people.
Did you know in 2005, they did a analysis of George´s hair and discovered he had arsenic poisoning which could of been from medicine or cosmetics.
Did you know, that the planet Uranus was originally named ¨Georgium sidus,¨ the Georgian Star, after King George III of England, who had funded the 40-foot telescope William Herschel used in its discovery.
King George now needs a new prime minister (George had 12 prime minister's altogether) so in 1763 George Grenville took the title. At this point, the King was in money trouble and this is where the American Revolution starts to come in
In 1764 Grenville introduced the Stamp Act in America which would raise revenue for King George.
In 1770, Lord North became prime minister and in 1773 he passed the act taxing tea in the colonies. That kicked off the Boston Tea Party.
In 1775, the American Revolution began. It was an ongoing war where America wanted its freedom and George want to govern the colonies. Now in reality, Parliamentary ministers, not the crown, were responsible for colonial policies.
King George had a hard time accepting his army's defeat at Yorktown in 1781, so he wrote up an abdication speech but then just used Parliament's peace negotiations.
In 1778, I would say King George took a mental health year off and came back a new and improved Monarch during the time of France's revolutionary chaos.
19.In 1783, Lord North´s coalition took place which bumped out William Pitt the Younger. Lord North lasted 17 years as prime minister.
20.His son George IV, took over and was given effective rule for the War of 1812 and Napoleon's final defeat at Waterloo in 1815.
