Week 1
Women's Suffrage
Women's suffrage is the right of women to vote in elections.
This mainly occurred in Seneca Falls, N.Y and It started in 1848 and ended in 1920.
1920 on election day women voted for the first time
Forms of Government
Anarchy: rule by none
Oligarchy: rule by few, power inherited, constitutional government
Theocracy: ruled by god or higher
Dictatorship: ruled by one
Monarchy: Ruled by one, power inherited, constitutional government
Direct Democracy: controlled by citizens, power inherited, people have a say
Repres. Democracy: ruled by representatives, controlled by citizens, power inherited, holds elections, constitutional government, people have a say.
The Civil Rights Movement:
Freedom Riders rode buses from town to town throughout the south.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination in hiring & ended segregation in public places.
The American Indian Movement protested the treatment of Indians
Holocaust: Between 1945 and 1953, more than 80,000 Holocaust survivors immigrated to the United States.

Persuasive: good at persuading someone to do or believe something through reasoning or the use of temptation.
Argument: an exchange of diverging or opposite views, typically a heated or angry one.
