$8.7 million was spent to help the victims of the storm, much of it from FEMA
The city government of Richmond came under criticism: potholes lined roads, brick sidewalks were a mess and due to poor drainage streets were covered in thick silt. Aswell, a lack of trash cans meant storm debris was everywhere- even a year late some of the damage from Gaston still lingered
Beginning in 2006, the city had spent $1.9 million on projects to mitigate the impact of major rainfall
