By August he concluded that the only option was to restore law and order in the city and discipline in the Army
Appointed new Supreme Commander: Kornilov
Kornilov had different ideas
He saw it as an opportunity to crush radical socialists
Kerensky denounced Kornilov
Called on Soviet for help to prevent counter revolts (which middle class welcomed)
Masses terrified of a revert to old gov
Bolsheviks provided salvation : Bolshevik Red Guard, Kerensky supplied them with weapons
Consequences
Kerensky's reputation was irretrievably damaged
Masses of people distrusted the Cadets and the liberals as the agents of the industrialists and large land owners
Bols rose back on a wave of support/ control of soviet on the 25th september
Overall the Kornilov affair hastened the process
