Solutions
Water metering- Using a measure of water will help divert from over-using, and in-turn, wasting water.
Dam construction- Building dams so water can be obtained and used for activities. e.g irrigation, human consumption
Irrigation Projects- Whereby a controlled amount of water is supplied to plants, which helps keeps them hydrated.
Sewage treatment- removing unwanted chemicals and minerals from sewage water so it can be used again, e.g for human consumption.
Growing demand for water
Population growth- As the people count grows, more people demand water.
-
Agricultural demand- Increase pressure from industrialisation, urbanisation and climate change.
-
Energy production- hydroelectric power needs water to convert into electricity. A growing need for energy means that there is also a growing need for water for electricity production.
