Nutshell 3: In regard to curriculum, behaviorists think that it “should be organized so that the students can master the subject matter” (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017, p. 101). However, because of their often overly simplistic, “step-by-step” and “prescriptive” mindsets, they are often criticized by other theorists. Furthermore, we often see the impacts of such a theory in “testing, monitoring, drilling, and feedback” (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017, p. 101) in students. While a methodical approach is needed at times, it must be balanced with innovation.
