Our Presidents Crime Policies
Roosevelt..Repealed Volstead act which allowed deferral administration to focus more on narcotics.
Eisenhower...Started in which Kennedy followed the pursuit to take charge on the increase rate of juvenile crime.
Eisenhower was denied twice a policy to federally aid states on juvenile delinquency programs. It wasn't until Regan took office where the policy was approved at an amount of $10 million a year.
Hoover..Felt crime increased due to the Volstead Act/Prohibition
Johnson started the " War on Crime"creating the safe streets act and the obnibus crime control.
Johnson also realized that juvenile crime was an issue but made no policies to make any changes. He had the same concerns as Eisenhower and Regan.
Kennedy..Kicked off the focus on crime not only for the presidents agenda but America's as well.
Nixon..focusing on crime and the relations of drugs he started the War on Drugs.
Ford...focused on emphasizing the policies that Nixon established.
Both Ford and Regan tried to stop mafia and police relations making corruption a mandatory jail sentence.
Carter..Focused on crime but mainly focused on the runaway bureaucracy.
Regan..Renewed the War on Drugs.
Just like George H.W. Bush, Regan supported mandatory minimum drug sentences in 1986. This was the first time Congress passed mandatory minimum sentences since the Boggs Act in 1951
Regan reestablished a war on corruption especially in the police force just like Kennedy and Ford.
Bush...supported mandatory sentencing for drug offenders and death penalty for drug king pins.
Clinton..Supported the three strikes legislation and started the 100,000 cops plan to patrol the streets.
George W...Focused very little on changing crime control due to the attacks of 9-11.
Harry Truman and George W Bush had to focus more on national security and real world wars so the war ion crime was not much of a priority.
Obama...Made no change in crime prevention and just rolled with the policies from past Presidents.
Like George H.W.Bush, President Obama reestablished Presidents Bush D.A.R.E program by having a national D.A.R.E day
