Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, causing them to also wage war with Russia, Serbia's ally. Soon, the world's powers were drawn into conflict to support their allies.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was the future ruler of Austria-Hungary, was assassinated on 28 June 1914 while visiting the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo. The assassin was a member of a Serbian nationalist group that encouraged Bosnian nationalism.

Allied Powers. However, Germany agreed to sign an armistice to end the war and did not feel like it was defeated.
