LESSON INTRODUCTION
Play a game where students walk to the side of the room they think the number is closest to. For example, if the left is 130 and the right is 140, teacher calls out number 136 . Students must predict which number the "called out number" is closest to. Do this with 7 numbers.
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES
Explain the cut off point of when to round UP or DOWN. Do some examples together and explain why you round up or down and which number you rounded to (10 or 100). Play Interactive Number Line Game. Number Line across board and students put their sticky note of their number to the closest 100th/10th.
SUMMARY/ CLOSURE
Ask students which numbers are the cut off and signifies whether to round up or down. Everyone will write down a number, pass it to their partner on their left and the recipient must place it on the numberline where it falls when rounded. (sticky notes). Tomorrow, will use those same numbers to subtract and add from others.
