GAPS AND FAILURE POINTS
(With Nodes and Sub-Nodes)
TECHNOLOGY
Data Center Facility
Install hardened PoE switches instead of media switches
Out-of-band access to network devices
Lack of technology understanding (for example) multicast togology
Need to consolidate CCTV network with enterprise
CCTV network backbone to be rebuilt/replaced
Storage
SAN has reached storage capacity
Consider using cloud data storage
Design of archive stream and live viewing stream
Aging storage (SAN) system (Hitachi)
Placement of additional equipment in PCC may cause cooling issues which can damage hardware
Aged Technology
Network Infrastructure
Aged equipment (network, storage, and cameras) are outdated architecture
Aging Brocade network switches; also not on latest firmware
VSCS - Not all routers may be on the same firmware and/or configurations
CCTV network equipment are very old
CCTV Cameras
Outdated and aged cameras - 60% to 90% of cameras are outdated and need timely changes.
CCTV network equipment is nearing / at end of useful life. Needs redesign and replacement
Issues with buying products that are discontinued
Camera Systems
GENETEC
Multiple camera types imposes difficulty for stockroom need to standardize as much as possible
Video is grainy; difficulty in identifying features and fine characteristics of objects
Use of PTZ cameras; all should be replaced with 180 or 360 cameras so that critical data is not lost when a single user is operating PTZ
ENCODERS
Current encoders used for analog camera cannot use RTSP
Disaster Recovery (DR)
Lack of Disaster Recovery capability with VIM (users)
Software
VIM software not working on VSCS project; not pulling down needed.requested video from Apollo system. MPD/Legal/Risk needed ASAP
Different platforms (Genetec, Apollo, & BRS Labs) are treated as its own entity and not as the overall system. Need better communication between groups and/or silos
Current version of Apollo VIM software pulls vehicles rather than take advantage of Ethernet's Dudley capacity
Upgrade technology to a more common platform to remove the requirements of specialty skills
Wireless
WiFi needs to be upgraded from "N" to "AC"
Common User IDs are being used for device access
Vehicle routers need to be upgraded to newer model
Need CCTV Wi-Fi access points at stations as Bus or train must return to the depot or yard before video is automatically uploaded
SUPPORT
Pulling of hard drives (mobile) - need better way to get large amount of data from Apollo system
Accessing rail card video via hard wire connection - USB port is not easily accessed on rail card; possible use extension cord approach
MPD CIU have issues pulling video from rail card due to location of equipment - vendor VIM not working
FIELD HARDWARE
CCTV component need to be consistently monitored
Radio maintenance needs laptops for CCTV support
VSCS rail antennas damaged by tree branches
Offline cameras throughout authority
Failure to audit CCTV Edge Hardware
Field determination of a cameras operational status
Difficulty in delivering CCTV workstations to locations
PROCUREMENT
Slow to procure and rollout software/hardware
Slow procurement process to purchase equipment
Lack of design approach (in procurement - configuration)
Funding
No funding to address infrastructure challenges
Radio Maintenance has limited budget to purchase new equipment (cameras, fibers, and services to support
Resources
CCTV has limited or capable resources servicing the system from end-to-end
Video pullers are not supported in MARTA Police Department. Operations budget taking away funds for more Police Officers
Radio Maintenance need more personnel to support CCTV but there is no increase of budget to hire
PROVISIONING
FUNDING
COSTING
PLANNING
CCTV test labs needed
Using deployment cycle for technology equipment
Not designed for change, network design is static.
CCTV security project takes long time for approval
Right-size - currently only 60% resources are being utilized but technology is aged.
Additional network fiber capacity required
Need plan to upgrade equipment as it reaches end-of-life.
Future replacement support of CCTV network
Slow to procure and roll out software/hardware
VSCS - rail car video access
GAPS IN COVERAGE
Regularly experience vandalism at the Union City Radio site. A CCTV system would be helpful for security.
No security or surveillance at the Alpharetta Radio site.
Blind spots on station's platform - are all areas along station's platform recorded?
CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT
Lack of thorough CCTV Configuration Management
CCTV interconnect drawings are not being updated
Difficulty in delivering CCTV workstations to locations. Getting CCTV to connect take months/years to get cone.
SECURITY
Hardware introduced on network without have it scanned for security exploitsl
Common User IDs are being used for device access
PROCESS
Poorly deployed security mechanisms.
Provisioning time for MAC issues for Move/Add/Change takes a long time.
Missing formal process to transition project equipment to Radio Maintenance for operational support
Poor hand-over process from project to IT operators. Need consistent standard acceptance practices.
CCTV
CCTV as a whole missing Change Management process.
Only authorized individuals can view CCTV videos
Risk Management process needed for CCTV, Video Analytics, and VSCS
Need maintenance steps to fix cameras that are out-of-service
Buses entering Revenue Services without functioning CCTV system (status light not being correctly utilized)
Being able to locate CCTV disks quickly from bus for crime investigation; currently manual effort with disks stored in boxes
CCTV cameras out-of-service; no maintenance process to fix
