Climate Change is Caused Mostly by Humans
Main Causes
The burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the air
Today many greenhouse gasses are being released by us and carbon dioxide is one of them
Roughly 30% of incoming solar radiation is sent back to space by the earth’s crust, but the other 70% is absorbed by the earth’s surface
The radiation that is absorbed warms the surface causing earth to send back an equal amount of energy but in the form of infrared radiation
greenhouse gasses take in infrared radiation and reradiate it in all directions including downward which results in the surface warming
Greenhouse gasses hold heat causing the ocean an atmosphere temperature to rise
Anthropogenic Climate Change
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, carbon dioxide levels have gone up
Carbon Dioxide levels have been growing since the 1800’s but temperature has not risen as simply
Insolation, the Sun’s contribution to global heating, is currently at a low. While it oscillates, with three peaks and three troughs in the last 100 years, overall it has been declining for the last 6,000 years.
However after studying other greenhouse gas causing processes warming could not happen unless you factor in anthropogenic greenhouse gas
Sun alone doesn't cause climate change
Effects
climate change can melt ice sheets which causes a rise in sea level
destroys habitats
causes asthma
worsens athsma
cause of some natural disasters
Why does it matter?
causing extnction
destroys natural resources
can cause weather disasters
Should Something be done?
many people claim people should cut down on the emission of greenhouse gas
lower carbon dioxide
reduces greenhouse gas
The warming is hard to protect because nobody can know how much greenhouse gas humans will emit in the future and we do not perfectly understand the climate system yet
sulfur emissions can lover the earth’s temperature
attempts to engineer and control climate
geoengineering is a significantly large attempt at changing earth’s climate
sulfur emissions cool earth
More climate change is preventable
can be predicted
more fossil fuels
more carbon dioxide
more greenhouse gas
more warming
Less fossil fuels burned
less Carbon dioxide
less greenhouse gas
less warming
Evidence
IPCC Statements
Scientist surveys say yes
observation of rising sea levels
Sun isn't adequate to cause climate change'
