Propaganda
Introduction
Uniting the German people against a common enemy
Increasing National Spirit
Spreading Anti-Semitism
Thesis
The use of propaganda against the enemies of Nazi Germany was very effective because it helped rally the German people against a common enemy, spread their Anti-Semitism, and increased their national spirit.
A good source for a basic introductory to Nazi Propaganda is: https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005202
This is a great example of a primary source: https://www.ushmm.org/information/exhibitions/online-exhibitions/special-focus/kristallnacht/synagogues/postcards
This source gives a great overview of the effects of propaganda on Nazi Germany. I used it quite a few times on my essay. The article is fairly long, but really manages to show a lot of useful information.
This source served a couple of purposes for me. It gave me evidence for the argument I was making and it also allowed me to use a primary source. Using a primary source somewhere in the paper was very important for me because having accounts from someone who was alive during these events can provide some great evidence.
This is a great source on the Treaty of Versalles: https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005425
This source was important for the argument that Germany united themselves against a common enemy. It gave me some background on the Treaty of Versalles and the effect it had on Germany at the time. It helped me make the argument that the Treaty of Versalles was a big part of the Nazi rise to power and their Empire building.
An important name in spreading Anti-Semitism through propaganda was Joseph Goebbels. A source about him is: http://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/joseph-goebbels.
This source was one of the most important ones that I used in the entire paper. I used it multiple times in the paper to show evidence for the points I was making. His ability to spread Anti-Semitism through propaganda was one of the reasons that he was such a big name when discussing WWII propaganda.
It would be impossible to talk about the unity of Germany without talking about the Berlin Olympics. One of the sources I used was: https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005680
This source was very helpful because it helped give me evidence about how Hitler wanted to show off the Aryan race. When discussing the unity of the German people during WWII, the Aryan race is a very important subject and this source helped me show evidence.
This source was very important for looking through a large amount of information about Nazi propaganda: O'Shaughnessy, Nicholas. "Selling Hitler: propaganda and the Nazi brand." Journal Of Public Affairs (14723891) 9, no. 1 (February 2009): 55-76. Academic Search Complete, EBSCOhost (accessed February 1, 2017).
This source probably had the most information out of all of the sources that I had gone through. It went very closely about Nazi propaganda and how it was made. The source really helped me with learning about how the Nazis increased their nation spirit through many methods such as parades. They even mention how the Nazi swastika can increase national spirit. This source was one of the most helpful and informational of the sources that I had gone through.
This source provided even more evidence to help me prove my thesis: Purdy, Elizabeth Rholetter, PhD. "Nazi propaganda." Salem Press Encyclopedia (January 2016): Research Starters, EBSCOhost (accessed February 1, 2017).
This source wasn't used as much as some of the other ones, however, it provided some important information. Some of the most effective evidence that can be used is statistics. This source gave me a very interesting statistic about how many people the propaganda reached. As a tool for showing evidence, statistics are very important.
