Life Problems
My flatmates don't do their fair share
Things break all the time in our flat
Emily is a better UX student than me
I need alone time and I feel frustrated with no breaks
I don't really know what I want to do with my UX life
I felt like a failure at entertaining Carolyn and Brian
I felt awkward about being in the middle of Tanika and Karin
My flatmates are always bringing over guests
We have no hot water
You shouldn't need alone time
I should have called Parul this morning
I will always get stuck with the work because I'll do it
Real women would have no problem
You should know by now! You're 29 for goodness' sake
You should have nipped that one in the bud
You should have applied for internships over break
You should be fine with these guests...what's your prob?
You should have picked a better flat
You're so much more self-aware than you used to be. You'll find ways to get what you need. Good opportunity to prioritize self-care.
Another opportunity for flatmate bonding :)
What an exciting time! You can go anywhere, and you are so talented. What I would give to be in your shoes! Being unsure means you still have options.
Opportunity to learn a new skill. One that's not REALLY that hard! just think of the satisfaction of mastering this one.
Chance to build the kind of world you wish you lived in--one where people love and are forgiving and kind to each other. One where they believe the best and appreciate the gift of having friends. These moments bring you one step closer to this world.
Also, who lends you Prosecco and is waiting around for the peeps tomorrow while you're in class?
Awkwardness means you're stepping out of comfort cocoon. You can't please everyone. You can't be everyone's best friend and largest admirer. Great opportunity to stand in the discomfort and letting everyone work itself out.
Competition breeds high performance. And this means that the field you're in is full of passionate, talented people you can learn from and solve problems with. You're going to need co-workers like Emily to solve world hunger!
Also, her success is not your failure. The world doesn't need to be stupid for you to be smart. It's full of sharp, hilarious, beautiful people who are your siblings somehow. That's worth celebrating! How else will you learn from them?
You have self-care needs: for alone time and for connection.
Those are not as easily filled with busy lives. Don't give up! Ask for what you need, be it alone time or connection. You have flatmates who are kind and beautiful and who love you.
You'll only have to deal with this until August. For now, just think of the money you're saving and the light that's shining through the gorgeous windows.
