Yvonne's City Life in Mexico
-
Career
I work 70% of the time in the office and 30% from home, which is actually stressing cause of deadlines and not having the support of your co-workers to give you immediate feedback and having to rely on technology.
Health & Wellness
Living in the city it isn't easy to be stress-free 24/7, the air isn't that clean and we don't have trees in the street but you can always take some time off and go talk a walk in the park with your dog to relax and exercise for a while.
I also enjoy taking some classes like zumba, pilates or hip hop dancing whenever I find the time to do it, this makes me feel energized and on a high.
Leisure
I love going to the movies! Sometimes I do it alone to have some 'me' time after a hectic day or week at work. Going out to have some dinner with friends or to have a nice get-together at someone's house is a great anti-depressant. We also enjoy going to Karaoke bars once in a while.
I love going to concerts when my fave bands come to my city, we've got great venues that make the whole experience very enjoyable.
Relationships
Almost everyone I know is single. It's very hard to find your soulmate, especially when you have a full schedule so you can't take the time to go out and meet a potential partner.
Money
You need to adjust your budget. I don't like to spend money on Starbucks coffee every day just once in a while when I'm out with my friends or co-workers, I bring lunch from home and this helps me save some cash to spend on other things. Life isn't cheap here.
Food
You've got options when it comes to food here, from Mexican to Italian, Vegetarian or Junk Food. Need a Starbucks? You can't find one everywhere! Craving for some tacos at midnight? You can order them, you're never hungry here (Don't know if that's a good or bad thing)
Culture
My friends and I like to go to museums whenever it's possible, the city has an event called "Museum Night" when they close later than they do on a regular day so everyone can enjoy their exhibitions, they do this once a month.
I've only done this once or twice in my life but I really enjoyed it: Going to Garibaldi Square at night to listen to live Mariachi music with some friends or family! Can't get more Mexican than that!
Pets
Dogs and cats are the most popular pets here, some places are becoming pet-friendly now so you can take your dog w/you when you get a cup of coffee.I do this with my little dog and it's fun.
Transportation
This is everyone's worst nightmare! If you drive your own car (like I do) you'll find yourself trapped in a traffic jam almost every day while commuting, you can always take the bus or subway but it's crowded. Taxis are kinda expensive.
Travel
I try to go out of town once or twice a year, even if it's just a one day trip with my friends or family. Just to have a breath of fresh air and unwind for the weekend.
Weather
We don't have hot weather all -year long like everyone thinks we do, we've got our fair share of cold, rainy and warm days in the city.
Goals
To find some time to experience what this city has to offer, I know there are some places that I've not been yet even though I've been living here my whole life. And to ride the Turibus and take a tour around town and see what all the fuss is about.
