Imperialism is when a country gains control through military force. The US did this in 1898 while fighting Spain to gain control of Cuba. After thy defeated the Spainards, they agreed to annex Cuba and give them their freedom and help them financially as long as they could profit off their industries such as the sugar industry. When they gained control of Cuba, they built the panama canal to make international commerce easier as well as make a ton of money of tariffs.
Anti-Imperialist League was formed by a group of people who were against the idea of expanding the United States. Members of this league were Mark Twain, Grover Cleveland, Andrew Carnegie, and Jane Addams
