Boundaries
Teachers should not contact students on social media unless the student contacts them first
Teachers should not view their students full profiles
Keep interactions public rather than private
Make the profiles that it is appropriate ti contact known to students so they do not try and contact a private profile
General Guidelines
Have separate accounts for personal and professional
Only allow yourself to be tagged in posts once you see and approve them
Make sure that only approved friends can view your posts and photos
Make it clear that interactions on personal sites is inappropriate with students
In the classroom
Social media can be useful in the classroom because students are used to it and can relate to it
Post lessons, power points, tips so the students can access them at home
Create groups to facilitate discussion
Post positive things to make the students feel rewarded
Make the groups private so people have to request to join
Personal profiles
Do not tag other colleagues in posts and photos without their permission first
Use appropriate privacy settings
Do not be on personal social media pages when in the professional setting
The schools or department of educations logo should not be used on personal social media pages
