DIT General Assessment Regulations
Methods may include online components and/or components that are self assessed by the student or peer assessed by other students. The assessment method chosen must provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate the achievement of learning outcomes at a standard defined by specified assessment criteria. Alternative arrangements must be made for those who might be disadvantaged by the form of assessment chosen.
Extract from Chapter 1. Principles: Coursework.

ASSURANCES vs FEASIBILITY: The document states in Chapter 10: 'Equipment failure during an Assessment' that "The Institute shall ensure that adequate technical support is available" - there is qualifying material attached to appendices to present the real scope of the promise made here in relation to technical support. #
ACTUALITY vs ASPIRATION: This mention in the Chapter intro is the only occurrence of the word 'online' in the document with the exception of 3 uses with regard to locating downloadable forms from DIT website. #

Needed - ONGOING EVALUATION?: No statement / doc control info about why and how often the Regs are reviewed - so not indication to staff or students when submissions might be made to champion or ask for more about eAssessment and learning.
-
Note on PRINCIPLES
VALUES of the Institute seem to assumed or submerged in the concept of Principles - similarly the RATIONALE - there is no statement at the outset to link learning with assessment and eLearning and eAssessment as enhancements that benefit this relationship between learning and teaching.
Note on REGULATIONS
OTHER REGULATORY BODIES are not particularly dealt with - how do other regulatory bodies affect the eLearning and eAssessment ambitions of DIT?
-
STANDARD
The document currently implies the 'standard' is implicit or at best somehow within the remit of DIT to determine in an autonomous manner. No connection to wider standards and why standardisation and modularisation are connected to the matter of student mobility.
