“How to Raise a Tech-Savvy Kid” G. Derene
Is this article actually describing a "savvyness" in technology? Most of the skills described seem almost innate to elementary ages students.
What dangers exist online for a 10 year old versus a 20 year old?
When should tech be incorporated into school? When should it be avoided?
Has Glenn Derene not read Dana Boyd? Might we mail him a copy of It’s Complicated?
What audience is the author writing to, and why is that important?
The article suggests that parents should give their children access to tech devices depending on maturity. Do you think there is a good age? What signifies maturity in a child?
n the article, the author states that kids are "fully engaged" in the digital world by age 4. isnt there something to be said for keeping your kid in a "small world "mindframe in order to cope at such a young age?Are there mental repercussions in exposing them to so much so young?
what could be the difference in a 14 year olds perception of the world as a whole that has been fully engaged in the digital world, as opposed to a 14 year old not exposed to the digital world whatsoever?
“Virtual Bodies and Flickering Signifiers” N. Katherine Hayles
Hayles argued (after Lucan) that traditional printed texts are signifiers floating and therefore digital texts are "flickering". What does this mean and how does Hayles describe its impact?
Hayles describes mutation in her text. Our Haraway "Cyborg"reading contained mutations of text because of a faulty OCR scan of the original text. What would Hayles say about this?

Is the flickering signifier a digital rhizomatic pattern; one that continues to lengthen and change infinitely?
How are our modern tools becoming extensions of our bodies? Have our tools always been? In what ways are they different or the same?
The article discusses how a person playing in a virtual reality game alters their body movements to comply to the translation of real world movement, to game world movement. If we are fitting our bodies to the computer, is the start of body integration into technology? What are some other mediums that humans have integrated their bodies into. What is the long term impact of this?
“The Garden of Forking Paths,” Borges
Why didn't Dr Yu Tsun just send a text message?
Was the labyrinth in this excerpt symbolic of anything?
How does one successfully navigate and maintain privacy in the multiple universes/paths that the Internet contains?
Did anything in this short story link with concepts from other readings?
This short story uses the many universes theory to explain a mysterious book that has no beginning and no end. Traditionally, humans have conceived of time as being linear (such as a timeline, or placing events in to the three categories of past, present, and future. Is interacting with a computer a good representation of the many universe (i.e. many possibilites) theory? Are there examples where the computer is an example of the linear time theory?
What is the symbolism of the labrynth? the forking paths?
how can this "enormous riddle" by Ts'ui pen be personally relatable to man in the 21st century? what does one do with this information of taking everything as opposed to just one outcome?
“A Cyborg Manifesto,”
D. Haraway
What is Haraway's opinion of the word feminism?
Radical feminism?
Marxist/Psychoanalysis?
Why are we talking about cyborgs in this article? What is a cyborg?
musk article
This text was published in 1991. How might the concepts discussed in this text be affected/reconceptualized for 2017?
And what boundary breaches does Hathaway discuss and why?
How might Haraway’s post-modernist interpretation of gender (or the lack thereof) be translated and taught in the art classroom?
Have we always been cyborgs? What makes the 21st century cyborg different, and how could you address this is your art curricula?
inka is a heinie?
The article was written in 1985, and discussed ways cyborgs could bridge the gap of the male gender and female gender. In the present, there are more recognized aspects of gender and non-gender people. Has the internet helped spread the notion of gender non-conforming? Has Haraway's predictions become true, but in a different way?
What does the term "homework economy" mean? Is it related to the concept of 'automation?
