School Holidays in Germany

Students take their final exams here

Berufskollegs
can undertake a range of work-directed studies such as economics and specific business studies
normally aged between 16 and 19(some up to 23)
Hauptshule
teaches basic skills, including one foreign language
They also continue learning basic subjects as well as English
The final half of the elementary school children are sent to the Hauptschule
High School in Germany
Gesamtshule is only offered in some regions
They are placed based on their grades
The fourth year is when they decide to go to the Hauptshule, the Realshule, or the Gymnasium
German School hours
There are many activities you can do before and after school
A fee is charged based on the income of the person
The school day starts at 8 AM and ends at 1 PM
Private Schools
Have a longer school day
There are also international schools at which the classes are taught in English
There are currently about 3,000 private schools in Germany
Gymnasium
About a quarter of children go here
This holds kids from age 12 to age 18
A student who fails more than one subject must repeat
A person can not repeat the same grade twice
Students choose a Zweig in the seventh grade, a core class
Realshule
After 6 years the students can graduate
learn skills that put them into the middle strata of business and industry
About one quarter of students attend here
