Revolutionary War/ Guns For General Washington
Causes of the Revolution
Britain had total economic control over the colonies.
The colonists could trade with Britain and any other other trade realtions were very strict.
After the French and Indian War the colonists were taxed to help pay for it.
Britain had absolute power over political issues.
Many colonist resented the colonial governors who were hired by the king or propriortors to makes sure the laws were being carried out.
Great Britain's uncontrollable desire for power caused the French and Indian War.
Britain also taxed the colonists to pay for the maintenence of British soldiers.
Colonial legislatures made the laws who Britain wanted control over.
So, typically the colonists had no say in Parliament.
The colonists didn't like the taxes and boycotted certain products with a tax on them.
After the French and Indian War the colonists weren't allowed to move west.
The colonists were also sometimes forced to take care of the soldiers and house them.
Britain paid for the war by placing unfair taxes on the colinsts.
Britain refused to consider the colonists needs for new rights even when the colonists started protesting violently.
Advantages the Patriots had
The Patriots were able to fight with more "passion" because they were fighting for everything. Their rights, their homes, and their independence.
They were fighting for the principals that they lived y everyday. If that is taken away they are stuck with Britain who was only fighting for more power..
The Patriots were able to outsmart the British by not fighting in their usual ways. Instead, they fought like the indians and started taking down the leaders first.
The Patriots also knew the land better. They lived there so they knew all of the shortcuts and where they could escape from the British and where it would be easy to stand their ground.
They also had great leaders like George Washington. It would be hard to fight if you didn't trust your leader and luckily they trusted Washington.
Most of their leaders were able to inspire them like the authors of the Declaration od Independence.
They also had lots of devoted people like Benjamin Franklin who stayed in France for a long time to try and convince them to join the American cause.
Another advantage they had is help from the French. After the battle of Saratoga the French decided to help out the colonists.
France supplied them with more supplies like guns and food, Also money to but the needed supplies and gae them lots of trained soldiers.
At the Battle of Yorktown the British wouldn't have won without the French who helped surround the British.
Important events in the Revolution
The Boston Massacre was on March 5, 1777
Also known as the incident on King Street, a group of colonists gathered to protest and taunt a group of British soldiers until some of the colonists were shot.
On December 16, 1773 there was the Boston Massacre.
Samuel Adams and The Sons of Liberty, protesting tea taxes, got dressed as indians and boarded several ships in the Boston Harbor..
The First Continental Congress took place from September 5 to October 26, 1774.
They threw 342 chests of tea overboard and were later forced to pay for it.
Delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies gathered to try and decide what to about growing problems with Britain.
The First Continental Congress wanted to get the colonies a voice and tell the king about how they deserved to be heard and had rights.
They also needed to prove Britain's violation of their rights.
The Continental Congress also needed to come up with a plan to make sure Britain would give them the rights.
The shot heard round the world was the first shot of the war at The Battle of Concord and no one knows who fired.
When General Henry Gage made a plan to attack the colonits to get their supplies some colonits got word.
Paul Revere and William Dawes set out on horseback to warn the colonists of Gage's plans by saying "The British are coming".
Thanks to Paul and William the colonists were able to stand their ground and attack the Britsh troops at The Battle of Lexington. The Patriots lost that battle and the British continued to go on towards Concord.
At Concord the British were trying to get the Patriot's supplied but they were prepared and stood their ground. The British troops were forced to retreat.
May 1775 there was the Second Continental Congress.
The colonies met again and did their best to be a republican government.
At the Second Continental Congress they formed an army for the patriots called the Continental Army, led by George Washington.
July 4, 1776 the Patriot's declared indepence in the Declaration of Independence whih was signed a month later.
It stated that the colonists have rights that can't be taken away including life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. It also says that they have the right to change and defy the government if it is violating their rights. The government gets its power from the people so people establish a government to protect the rights.
It was written by John Adams, Roger Sherman, Benjamin Franklin, and Robert Livingston.

He was a Patriot.
(I can't sind reasons why he was a patriot.) He most likely wanted to have a say in Parliament and their religion.
George really wanted to join the British Navy but his mom wouldn't let him.
He died December 14, 1799
If his slaves disobeyed him he would cut their heads or hands off.
George Washington was not Patsy and Jacky's real father. He was actually their stepdad.
His vice president was John Adams.

America is finally decreed a free, independent nation that is not being controlled by Britain.
There are now new boundaries for the United States
