The ABC's of German Schools
This article is related to the book the we are reading called the giver.
In some regions in Germany Gym is offered as an alternative.
They get put in different schools based on their academic performance.
High School in Germany
They only go to school from 8a.m. to 1p.m.
Gymnasium
When they got o gym it has nothing to do with sports or Physical education.
It lasts from the age 12 to 18 or 19.
At least 2 foreign languages are required.
In most German countries if a student fails at least 2 classes they will have to repeat the whole grade.
Realshule
They learn basic stuff to obtain mid-level job.
In order for a student to transfer they must have high enough grades.
After 6 years they graduate with a diploma.
After graduate they go to vocational school.
Haptushule
After elementary school they are sent here.
Its a five year program that teaches basic skills.
They also continue learning basic subjects such as english.
Gesamtshule
It is a comprehensive school.
Attended by students with different abilities.
Students can also still take there final exam here.
it is called kollegshale
Private Schools
3,000private schools in germany.
Often have longer school day.
Berufskollegs
includes vocational schools
students age between 16 and 19.
In some cases up to 23.
all studies are directed to apperanceship.
School Holidays in Germany
Six weeks of summer vacation
One week of autumn vacation
2 weeks of christmas and winter vacation.
2 weeks of easter and spring vacation.
