Macro mode
The mode is very useful for taking close-up shots of objects like flowers or insects. Choose the macro mode before you take close-ups, focus the camera and shoot. You should be able to take a photo with a sharp image.
How to use the flash
If you really do not know much about photography, you can set the camera on automatic mode. However, if you want to take great shots, you will have to use the flash. First, take a few test shots with the flash and then without the flash and compare the results. Most people think that they do not need to use the flash when taking photos outdoors during the day. That is not always true. If your subject is in shadow, you will need to use the flash or you will not be able to see his/her face.
Hold your camera level
It is one of the basic rules in photography. If your camera's viewfinder comes with horizontal lines or a frame, make use of it to frame your shots. If you are shooting a sunrise or sunset, use the horizon as a guide.
Use a tripod
If you have a tripod, make use of it. When you have poor lighting, a tripod will help to steady the camera. For example, if you are trying to take a photo of a night scene, it helps to have a tripod so that you can keep the camera still, slow down the exposure and allow sufficient light to enter the camera.
Memory capacity
Make sure you have enough storage space on your memory card because photos take up a lot of space. Depending on your camera, you might want to check and make sure you have enough storage space. For example, with a 2 megapixel camera, you could get a 64 MB card but if you have a 5 megapixel camera and you plan to take a lot of photos, get a 1 GB card. The size of the memory card is indicated in megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB).
