The break down of race from early 2000 to now, has not changed dramatically. Although, their was a decrease in the number of Black or African Americans and American Indian and Alaska Native. All other races, appears to have increased.

In the early 1900s, the population of South Carolina was roughly 1.3 million.

In most of the towns and counties during this time, the percentage of Black Americans were higher than those of White Americans. Most towns had more than 50% of its population being Black Americans
Out of this population their were only 121 Indian Americans and 67 Asians in South Carolina at this time.

By the end of the 1700s the White American population grew to 180,000 and the Black American population reached 97,000.

In 1670, South Carolina was settled by the English. By 1680, the population of White American's was 1,200 people.
In the early 1500s, the Spaniards explored the coast of South Carolina. In 1524, the French also began to explore the riches of South Carolina but the colony failed.
