Technology Standards for Education
ISTE Standards for Teachers

#
Relating material to real world issues and solving problems using technology as a tool and resource
#
Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
: Being able to asset students using technology and creating digital learning experiences in which allows students to learn through their liking and needs.
The ability to create and make lessons personal to each student to cater to the different learning techniques
Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
: Teachers having the ability to adapt and know different technology tools and resources.
#
Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
: To enforce and be an example by showing good citizenship and responsible qualities.
Being able to enforce, teach, and be an example of how to use technology in an appropriate and safe manner
#
Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
: The ability to grow professionally by reflecting on teaching practices.
Professional growth is the connecting factor between these points. Educators need to grow in order to stay up-to-date with technology. I connected these two ideas because growth comes from reflecting on your previous work and doing research and innovation into new and upcoming technology tools.
ISTE Standards for Students
Empowered Learner
: Being able to allow technology to play an important role in learning by selecting, representing and accomplishing their goals.
Using technology to better their learning by getting critiques and advice on their learning
Digital Citizen
: Students having the ability to understand that they live in a society with technology as its driving force, they acknowledge that they must use technology in a safe, permitted, and mannerly way.
#
Digital citizenship is the link to these two ideas. Digital citizenship is the idea that we should be good citizens by monitoring how we use technology. They are linked together because both teacher and students should practice digital citizenship.
Innovative designer
: The ability to use technology to create and find the solution to problems that students have recognized.
#
The connection in between these concepts is that developing the skill of problem-solving is important for students. By using multiple tools students can create and solve problems and develop the competencies to function in the real world.
Creative communicator
: Students have the ability to use technology tools and resources to creatively correspond with themselves and others.
#
The main connection is to develop and enhance the creativity that lies within students. Teachers can do this by using different types of technology tools and students can facilitate this by using the different tools that are provided for them.
The connection that links these concepts together is communication. Technology is a way of means for teachers and students to communicate with peers, administration, and parents. By using different forms of technology and multimedia tools it makes communication simple.
Global Collaborato
r: Learning and gaining insight by sharing ideas with others and gaining ideas from others using technology as the center tool.
Using technology to learn from others of different cultural backgrounds to gain different view points
Different perspectives can be very hard to find especially in the same country where we all have the same Canadian core beliefs. These concepts are connected because gaining different perspectives can be done through the use of technology. Collaboration can help teacher and students learn different things.
Learning and Technology Policy Framework
Student-Centered Learning
: Using technology to enhance student-centered learning, technology has the ability to individualize students learning, making it personal and unique to each student.
#
Student-centered learning is the connection, the idea is that lessons should be customized and authenticate to each student, because every student has a different learning style, using technology is the best way to enforce this.
Research and Innovation
: To better develop student’s education and learning experiences, educators study, analyze, take part and incorporated research studies into their professional practice.
#
Professional Learning
: The ability to learn new and upcoming technology tools or enhance outdated tools and to be able to apply it to their pedagogical practices and maintain these practices.
The ability to adapt and to learn new tools for technology is why I linked these two points together. As educator's it is important to grow with technology just like the students are because this helps to relate to students and make their learning more engaging.
Leadership
: To have firm and strong educational leaders who implement appropriate and effective policy with student-centered learning and the use of technology at the core of those policies.
Access, Infrastructure and Digital Learning Environments
: In order to use technology students and education staff and leaders must have effective, sustainable technology networks and environments.
ICT Program of Studies
Communicating, inquiring, decision-making, and problem-solving
: Being able to use multiple technology tools to develop basic competencies to function. The goal is for students to have the ability to relate what they have learned in the real world.
Using technology to gain different perspectives
#
These two viewpoints are linked together because they both agree that making real world connections is important. Teachers can implement this by applying technology into their lesson plans and once students are engaged and understand the lessons then they will be able to apply it to the real world.
Processes for productivity
: In order for technology to be used effectively, we should gain insight and fully understand how to function or operate simple tools.
Students using technology as a form of communication and using various communicative media
Foundational operations, knowledge, and concepts
: The capability to recognize that technology can be used in both positive and negative ways, that technology should be used in non-violent and morally manner.
The connection between these two concepts is the idea that what we do with technology affects our lives, hence, it is important that students and teacher use technology in an ethical way. Teachers should demonstrate this by being an example to students.
Technology is not just about using it but rather how it is done and if it is used effectively is what matters.
Applying technology to the daily lives of students is the best way to learn how to use it properly.
