in 1944, the United States enacted the "GI Bill" which took care of health-care as well as loans to purchase homes and start new businesses for veterans. They also received many provisions to help them receive an education. The veterans would receive one year of federally subsidized education as well as becoming eligible for the maximum four years worth of benefits including tuition, fees, books, supplies, and a monthly living allowance. (Gutek, pg. 181) Because of this many young men and women are able to protect our country today as well as receive an education at a higher ed facility.
