How can we assess and plan intervention for Bilingual children, in regards to bilingual lexical development?
VOCABULARY
Studies of Spanish-English bilingual toddlers and preschool children have found that when bilingual children's vocabulary in both languages is considered, their total vocabulary size is comparable to the total vocabulary size of monolingual children

INTERVENTION
BILINGUAL TODDLERS
As cited by Pearson & Fernandez (1994), learning a word in one language does not result in quicker learning of the equivalent word in another language.
- It is best to simply teach a young bilingual child the words he or she needs in each language as the need arises, using recommended practices for early intervention, such a "Incidental Teaching Opportunities"
TODDLERS 2
As cited by Raikes et al (2006), support for increased caregiver-child book reading with very young children is an important element in early intervention plans for bilinguals.
- Opportunities for joint book reading in both languages should be addressed in a comprehensive language intervention for young simultaneous bilinguals and children with language disorders who are in the early stages of language development.
