Algebra
Expanding and simplifying brackets
Remember to multiply, not add
Remember about negative numbers. Same signs = positive. Different signs= negative
Remember BODMAS
x times by x = x squared
Examples
5 (3x+6) + 2(4x-3)=
15x+30+8x-6=
23x+24
3(2x+5) + 4(x+3)=
6x+15 + 4x+12=
10x+27
Use the arrow method
Factorising
Find the common number factor and the common letter. Use them together
Know your addition and subtraction rules
Examples
6x + 10x = 2x (3x+5)
6x+24=6(x+4)
3x+12=3(x+4)
Algebraic notation
There is no times sign. Two letters together is times
x means 'a number'
Substitution
In this, you replace the letter with the number given
Remember to know your multiplication rules
