Another contributing factor to the fall of the Aztecs was that the Europeans had infected the Aztecs with Small Pox, a disease that the Europeans had some immunity to but the Aztecs, having never experienced the disease, much less developed immunity for it, were quickly overwhelmed by the sickness and their numbers, once much larger, perished.
