Tenochtitlan
It was built in the middle of a lake
The population in Tenochtitlan was a huge amount. The population was 200,000!
It was an old city that the aztecs made
Had beautiful buildings and pyramids.
Tenochtitlan is now Mexico City.
Aztec engineering
Pyramids
They build pyramids so they can get closer to their gods.
They think pyramids looks pretty and really awesome.
They build pyramids because so they can do sacrifice people
Aztec houses
The houses are usually small.
A average aztec house is usually 15-25 square meters.
They built their houses in a pattern.
ALways pick the right stones
The materials they used to build their Aztec houses were wood, soil, straws, water, sand, clay, and adobe bricks. Adobe bricks are made out of mud and clay.

They made their houses with stone blocks and dirt blocks. They mostly use adobe blocks.
The houses are pretty big.
The houses are really strong. Not even a knife blade can't fit in there. The stones are tightly put together.
They have strong gabled roofs.

It is one of the most famous city. More than 3,000 people come to the city each year.
The houses are really strong. Not even a knife blade can't fit through the houses in the City of Machu Pichu.
That was the only city on top of the Andes Mountain.
It is a really old city.
Machu Picchu
Used granite stones to build most of their houses.
It takes 2-5 days to get to the city of Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu is 2430 m above sea level.
Architecture is pretty good there.
There are more than 3,000 steps to get to Machu Picchu.
Inca culture
Art
They used materials to make art like wood, stone, fabric, bones, and shells.
They even had paint long time ago. They use paint to paint their houses and also made beautiful art.
One art they made is ceramic pottery.
Medicine
Coca leaves are one of the best medicine.
They take out a square piece of their brain. 80-90% actually worked.
They used herbs and minerals to cure people.
The only way to cure a person is to go to the doctor or use just simple magic.

The walls are so strong, not even a knife blade can break the walls. They used stones to make the walls sturdy.
The walls are used for protection.
They make strong and sturdy walls.
Terraces
They builded the terraces because so good farming can happen.
The terraces they made prevents the erosion.
They builded the terraces because when it rains in the Andes, the plants will get bigger because of the water and also to prevent erosion. That means it can't wear down the houses they made in Machu Picchu. (Some will wear down. It will depend on the house)

Aztec Conquered
The aztec got conquered by Hernan Cortes.
The aztecs got conquered in 1521.
They got conquered by the diseases like small pox.
Hernan Cortes surrounded the aztecs using the city walls. They didn't get any food and they were starving, so they surrendered.
Hernan Cortes
Hernan Cortes is from Spain.
The purpose for Hernan Cortes to come to the new world because he wanted to "conquist" the aztecs. He was conquistador.
He wanted to rule over the aztec city.
Montemuza
Montezuma invited Hernan Cortes because he thought Hernan Cortes was feared.
Montezuma died by the Spanish people. They threw rocks at him and Montezuma refused to take medical treatment. This is how they died.
Montezuma was the last emperor who was defeated by Hernan Cortes.

Inca conquered
Incas sometimes makes mistakes and the conquistadors punish them.
They brought diseases like smallpox and killed the Incas.
The Incas got conquered by the the spanish conquistador, Francisco Pizarro. He wanted to rule their city.
Francisco Pizarro
Pizarro was born in 1471 and died in 1541.
Pizarro was a spanish conquistador, which means that he ruled some kind of place.
Atahualpa
He was the last one to rule the Incas. Francisco Pizarro killed him.
Atahualpa got small pox and got injured.
Culture
Food
They ate tamales.
They ate meat. This is one type of food that they usually eat everyday.
They ate tortillas.
They ate atole.
They ate Maize. Maize are a type of corn that they to eat.
Religion
They think some of the gods are controlling nature.
They do human sacrifice to keep the world balanced.
They are polytheistic, which means that they believe more than one god.
Some of their gods got sacrificed because the gods want to balanced the world too.
