Aztec & Inca

Aztec conqoured
Since the Spanish had weapons that the Aztecs had never seen they were scared to fight.
The Spanish had brought over diseases which killed more Aztecs than the Spanish did.
The Aztecs weapons were made of sticks and the Spanish had steel swords and guns
Cortes captured the emperor so it was easy to make them surrender as well.
Hernan Cortes
Cortes went to the new world to find resources and wealth
He was a spanish conquistador
Took down the Aztec easily
Conquered Aztec and claimed it for Spain

Welcomed Hernan Cortres into
Tenochtitlan
Thought Cortes was an ancient god.
Emperor of the Aztec

Was captured by Cortes and then later murdered.
Culture
Food
Mainly ate CORN
they also put it in a lot of their food like soups and bread.
'INVENTED' and also
ate mostly ever body's favorite CHOCOLATE!
Ate many crops such as beans,limes,cashews,chilies, etc.
Aztecs also ate many varieties of
fruit such as apples and tomatoes
The Aztecs would make tamales out of maize aka cornmeal and when they were done they would prepare a special drink my mixing chocolate maize and water. It is said that the drink brings strength and agility.
Clothing
Ages four and up girls would wear long blouses and boys would wear capes.
Age five and up girls skirts were replaced with longer ones
If you were an Aztec under the age of 3 you would wear nothing at all.
At age 13 boys started wearing loin cloths. Long cloths that covered the front and back of their body.
The most famous cloths were woren by a man named Juan Diego.
Language
The way the Aztecs wrote in Nahuatl was by drawing pictures.
Over 1.5 million natives spoke the language
A group called the Nahuas made this language for their people.
Thousands of people in mexico and neighboring countries still speak nahuatl
Main language was called Nahuatl.
Tenochtitlan
Tenochtitlan was built as an island on lake Texcoco.
Tenochtitlan had
chinampas which were floating islands used for farming.
Many temples and pyramids shaped like triangles (obviously cause there pyramids)
The temples and pyramids honored each of their gods.
Human sacrifices were preformed int he temples that were in tenochitlan
Aztec-Engineering
Causeway
Allowed citizens to travel to other islands .
There were three main causeways attached to Tenochtitlan.
There were more than 3 causeways but there was 3 main ones.
They built the causeways out of small stones and large wooden stakes.
Canals
There lake's water was very salty and un-drinkable so they connected canals to other bodies of water.
Used to connect to fresh water springs across the island.
One of the biggest city's so canals also brung water from other parts of the city
Also built to bring water to plants because their main source of food was the agriculture they produced
Used the canals to gather the natural resources near the island.
Inca-Engineering
Terraces
Helped the Inca farm since it stopped erosion
They were steep hills like big steps.
Where smooth and flat to grow crops
The Inca had great architects so it was easy to just dig out the terraces
Used to stop erosion.
Fountains
Made to deliver fresh water the Machu Pichu
Connected to places with fresh water
Also used rainwater
Each fountain had a spout designed to shape a jet of water that was the perfect size for filling jugs of water made of clay
Special architecture used so that you could turn the water stream off and on

Religion
There religion was considered a rich mythology.
Inti,
Mama ,Quilla ,Pachamama, and
Viracocha are examples of the gods they believed in
Incas worshiped a god named Viricocha Inti
Majority of people were polythestic
They preformed human sacrifices for their gods
Games
Tlachtli was like a mix of basketball and soccer but you could not use your hands so it was challenging.
The Incas played a game called Tlachtli
The Inca played many games that the Inca have played before them
The ball they played with was 6 inches in diameter and made of rubber
The children usually played board games and the adults usually delt with gambling
Food
Also ate corn because they grew it
They did not have pigs cows and other huge sources of meat so they ate guinea pigs
Inca knew over 200 kinds of potatoes.
They drank llama milk and water also.
Main crop was potatoes
Machu Pichu
Buildings and other structures were built out of dry stone
Built on the Andes mountains.
Built there city high up to spot their enemy's.
Used special techniques to build like the wooden wedge technique
