Aztec Culture
Food
Along with avocados, tomatoes, tamales, vegetables, meat, chili peppers, squash, and chocolate.
They fish and hunt for rabbits, snakes, coyotes, and wild turkeys.
Yellow corn was main food source.
The most valued food was the coco bean used to make chocolate.
Aztecs ate a variety of foods including insects, fish, honey, dogs, and snakes.
Clothing
Poor people wore their own cloths, and made their own cloths.
Women need to make the cloths.
Women wore long skirts and blouses.
Aztec men wore loincloths and long caps.
Laws say what clothing decorations and color different classes of people could wear.
Language
Nahuatl words borrowed by the the Spanish were later absorbed into English.
Nahuatl language started in the mid- 1350s.
The people speak Nahuatl
Some people speak Nahuatl in some parts of Mexico today.

Tenochtitlan was located on a swampy island in Lake Texcoco.
Tenochtitlan was the most densely populated city ever to exist in Mesoamerica.
Tenochtitlan was the capital city.
The Aztecs were able to settle there, because no one else wanted the land.
Tenochtitlan at its height had more than 140,000 inhabititlans.

The terraces are on the mountains.
They also built bridges where the roads needed to cross rivers.
The terraces were usually paved with stone.
The Incas built terraces that went throughout their empire.
They built terraces to transport goods and the moving of army troops.
Walls
They made the stones fit closely together.
They made buildings that can survived for hundreds of years.
They also didn't use mortar to put together.
Many survived earthquakes that occur.
Incas made stone buildings without iron tools.

Hernan Cortes came to the new world for land, new food, and gold.

Francisco Pizarro was known for being rich from the new world.

They had a civil war.
The Europeans killed the Inca's leader.
The Europeans brought disease, which cause many deaths to the Inca.
The Europeans had a huge amount of land.
Atahualpa
Francisco Pizarro took Atahualpa as a prisoner.
Francisco Pizarro killed Atahualpa.
Atahualpa was the leader of the Inca.
Machu Picchu
Most of the buildings are built with stones that are fitted together tightly without the use of mortar.
Most hard work was done by people.
It was built in 1450s.
The city of Machu Picchu was divided into 3 sections: Sacred District, Popular District, and District of Priests and Nobility.
Machu Picchu sits 8,000 feet above sea level atop a mountain in the Andes Mountain range in southern Peru.

Cothing
Both men and women would wear capes.
The clothing of the rich was made from finer cloth and was more decorature.
The women wore long dresses.
The men wore long sleeveless shirts or tunices.
Hairstyles were an important part of Inca fashion.
Food
They also ate tomatoes, peppers, fish, and ducks.
People ate well and taken care of.
Corn, squash, and beans were the main staples of their diet.
If someone couldn't work or too old, the government will take care of them and made sure the had enough food.
People ate depended a lot on where they lived.
Religion
They built a temple for each god or goddess.
Inca, god of the sun was the most important of the gods to the Inca.
They sacrifices animals and humans, including children.
The Inca worshiped mountains, because they believed the mountains were the source of water.
Had many gods and goddess like Sun and Moon.
