The New Zealand Society of Potters was formed in 1965, to support a small group of entrepreneurial potters, also the editorial committee for the NZ Potter, (Doreen Blumhardt, Helen Mason, Lee Thomson, Juliet Peter and Roy Cowan) who required administrative support for their increasingly popular magazine and annual exhibition. The aim was to provide a network for potters around the country, circulating information and organising annual conferences and exhibitions. It continues to act as an umbrella organisation for potters and pottery clubs today, offering national and regional exhibitions, mentor programs, a quarterly magazine, online services for members and other initiatives.
