Japan demonstrated extreme patriotism due to religion, sacrificing anything for the Japanese emperor, helping the Japanese military.
The emperor-based ideology of Japan was a new creation uniting the nation in response to the Western challenge.
Japan wanted to capture surrounding countries before other countries claimed them first, as easy pickings.

Japan wanted to get in on easy pickings in the Pacific before Germany ended the war altogether.

The Japanese used captured men and women to use cheap labour. The Japanese labour camps were cruel and inhumane further decreasing cost.
Due to the depression, unemployment was rising, causing decrease in economics, leaving Japan vulnerable.
After the great depression, Japan was crippled in economics. Japan needed a way to get their economy back, and imperialism for this reason.
Due to economic downfall, Japan became a country ready for political upheaval, which motivated them to enter WW2.
Japan suffered from their own depression, in which they wanted to recover from. Japan started to protect their own economic rights, while taking other countries to gain more money.
