DEFINITIONS
Humanism A system of beliefs concerned with the interest and idals of humans rather than the natural or spiritual world.

Behaviorism The theory that observed behavior, rather than what exists in the mind, provides the only valid data for psychology.
Pro-social behavior Behavior that benefits other people such as altruism, sharing, and cooperation.
Competence Refers to a pattern of effective adaptation to one’s environment it involves behavior that is socially responsible, independent, friendly, cooperative, dominant, and achievement orientated.
Discipline Involves punishment, correction and training to develop self-control.

Permissive parents are non-controlling, no demanding, and accept child impulses.
authoritative parent are controlling but flexible, demanding but rational.
Uninvolved parents are non controlling, no demanding, indifferent to childs point of view and activities.
Authoritarian parent strict control (self-will curbed by punitive measures) evaluation of child’s behavior and aptitudes with absolute standard values obedience, respect for authority and tradition. .
