Seven Roles of the President
Chief Executive
The president decides how the laws of the United States are to be enforced and chooses officials and advisers to help run the Executive Branch. He's the "boss" for millions of government workers in the Executive Branch.
Example:Appointing someone to serve as head of the Central Intelligence Agency(CIA).
Party Leader
In this role, the president helps members of his political party get elected or appointed to office.
Example:Choosing leading party members to serve in the Cabinet.
Chief Diplomat
The president decides what American diplomats and ambassadors shall say to foreign governments.
Example:Entertaining Japanese diplomats in the White House.
Economic Planner
The role of the President is to run the
economy smoothly.
Example: Meeting with business and labor leaders to discuss their needs and problems.
Chief Legislator
The Constitution gives the president power to influence Congress in its lawmaking
Commander in Chief
The president is in charge of the US
armed forces: the Army,Navy,Air Force,and Marines.
Example:Inspecting a Navy yard
Head of State
The role of the President is to inspire others and welcome Americans to the White House.
Example: President welcomes celebrities to the White House.
