Gifted Education at Fremont Public Schools Courtney Fitzgerald-Stevens

        Camp Invention is a one week camp offered in the summer. These students need more.

      - Instructional Coaches are sent to NAG conference each year to learn instructional strategies for high ability learners.

        Needs to reach more educators to make a difference for students.

      - Teachers can be trained in tiered learning in order to differentiate for their students.
- - - - Possible steps to improve offerings of gifted education opportunities for students:
        
        Define gifted and high ability learners.
        
        Use half of the budget to hire a 1/4 time teacher (a certified staff member who already works for FPS) to develop a program with instructional coaches.
        
        Elementary schools: differentiation is in place. Teachers need ideas and support to differentiate for the high ability learners.
        
        USE STAFFING MORE EFFICIENTLY: There are certified staff members who have up to three extra hours of plan time per week. Give them groups of students to mentor and challenge with support from the coaches and gifted teacher.
        
        These staff members could be working with high ability students on projects that solve real-world problems.
        
        Middle and High School: Offer "honors" and AP classes. Through PLC structure, help them study their populations. Give them information and support with engagement and tiered questioning.
        
        They need instructional tools as well as "fun tools" like 3-D printers.
        
        Develop an identification process.
